CANGGU BEACH CLEAN-UP: TOGETHER, PRESERVING THE BEAUTY OF THE OCEAN

On Friday, November 29, 2024, Canggu Beach witnessed the extraordinary enthusiasm of dozens of volunteers united by a noble cause: preserving the beauty and cleanliness of the environment. The Canggu Beach Clean-Up event not only served as a tangible action to protect nature but also reinforced the critical message of shared responsibility for the environment.

This beach-cleaning initiative was spearheaded by various stakeholders, including government institutions, tourism players from Canggu Village, Alex Villa, Deus Exmachina, and Asta Medical Center, with support from other invited guests. Together, they ensured the event ran smoothly, brimming with energy and yielding positive impacts for the surrounding environment.

Plastic waste, especially from daily consumption, poses a severe threat to marine ecosystems. A 2015 study by Jenna Jambeck revealed that Indonesia ranks as the second-largest contributor of plastic waste to the world’s oceans, following China. Each year, an estimated 0.48 to 1.29 million metric tons of Indonesia’s plastic waste pollutes the seas. Without decisive action, this figure will continue to rise, further damaging marine ecosystems and the life they sustain.

The Canggu Beach Clean-Up event was more than just an effort to clear litter from the beach; it was also an opportunity to raise public awareness about the importance of environmental preservation. Through collaboration and support from various parties, small initiatives like this can become the first step in reducing the harmful impact of waste on the environment.

Every small step in picking up trash contributes significantly to securing the future of our beaches and oceans. Through collective spirit, as demonstrated at the Canggu Beach Clean-Up, we can ensure that Canggu Beach remains beautiful, clean, and free from pollution. Let us continue to raise awareness, maintain cleanliness, and take concrete actions for a better environment!
